Focus commands all services, public divisions, CPSUs to utilize BSNL, MTNL administrations

The focal government has ordered all services, public divisions, and public area units to utilize telecom administrations of state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

“The administration of India has, between Alia, affirmed the required usage of limits of BSNL and MTNL by all services/branches of legislature of India, CPSEs, focal self-sufficient bodies,” an update gave by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said.

The notice dated October 12, was given to all secretaries and offices under the Center after an interview with the fund service.

The Department of Expenditure’s not going with the reminder referenced that the choice to command the utilization of BSNL and MTNL telecom administration was taken by the Cabinet.

“All services/divisions are likewise mentioned to give vital guidelines including to CPSEs/Central Autonomous associations under their influence for compulsory use of BSNL/MTNL network for web/broadband, landline and rented line necessities,” the DoT reminder said.

The request comes as an alleviation for the misfortune making state-run telecom firms who have been losing their wireline endorser base. BSNL recorded lost Rs 15,500 crore and MTNL posted lost Rs 3,694 crore in 2019-20.

BSNL’s wireline supporter base has dissolved from 2.9 crores in November 2008, to around 80 lakh in July this year. MTNL’s fixed-line clients have descended from 35.4 lakh in November 2008, to 30.7 lakh in July this year.

State-run telecom firm BSNL has raised more than Rs 8,500 crore through sovereign assurance bonds to extend its organize and oversee operational costs. MTNL is yet to raise Rs 6,500 crore through sovereign bonds which were affirmed by the Cabinet in October 2019, as a major aspect of its recovery bundle.
